He was predeceased by: his parents, Levi Kern and Bernice Catherine Kern (Gerrits); and his siblings-in-law, Carl Lancaster, Keith Anderson, Robert "Bob" Thomson, Dave Blom, Mary Shepro (Tom), Delores "Scottie" LaBrosse and Laverne "Bernie" McHugh.
He is survived by: his wife Pat Hylok; his children, Janet Kern, Mike Kern (Wanda), Marc Kern (Barbara) and Lisa McNee (Bill); his stepdaughter Stephanie Davis (Harry); his grandchildren, Garrett Kern (Allie), Larkin Kern, Morgan Kern, Alex Kluball, Brian Kluball (Wendy), Ben McNee, Kyle McNee, Freedom Smith (Nick) and Tabitha Slagle (Jake); his great grandchildren, Rachel Kluball, Finnley Smith, Stephen Slagle and Benjamin Slagle; his sisters, Carol Lancaster and Mary Anderson; and his siblings-in-law, Jean Thomson, Sally Lupien (Ron), Dee Blom, Pete McHugh, Bill LaBrosse, Ralph LaBrosse (Kyong) and Tom LaBrosse. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
