He was predeceased by: his parents, Art Bates and Irma Bates; his wife Jo; and his sister Elaine Tomlinson. He is survived by: his children, Lynn Egeness (Wendell), Diane Miller (Kurt), Terry Brundish (Jim Ludwig), Joy Gunderson (Jeff), Mike Bates (Bev) and Dan Bates (Emily); and his grandchildren, Rachael Lawry, Zander, Skyler Gunderson, Katie, Matthew, Connor, Kiley and Addison Bates.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Ann Catholic Church (323 N Van Buren St, Stoughton, WI 53589). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
