He was predeceased by: his close friend Paula Christman; his brother-in-law Al Behning; his grandparents, Ethel, John Nykanen, Mittie and George Gilmore; and his uncle Bob Gilmore.
He is survived by: his parents, Thomas Nykanen and Mary Nykanen (Gilmore) of Superior, WI; and his siblings, Jean Ann Krivinchuk (Paul) of Superior, WI, Cynthia Behning of Duluth, MN, Marsha Checchin (Russ) of South Range, WI, John Nykanen of Palmer, AK, Michael Nykanen (Angela) of Rosemount, MN, Tammy Dittbrender (Brian) of Superior, WI, Daniel Nykanen of Superior, WI and Jamie Stenberg (Ronald) of Wisconsin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, greats and great-great nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
A skill he put to great use every year, helping prepare the garden with his mother, and selflessly donating his time helping those that found themselves in need of snow removal and lawn care.
