Jon P. Lybeck Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon P. Lybeck, 85, on Tuesday, May 1, 2024, at Twin Ports Health Services, with family at his side.

A lifelong Superior resident born to Toivi (Sihlman) and Toivo 'Toik' Lybeck in Worcester, MA. His family moved to Superior shortly after. Jon graduated from Superior Central High School in 1957 and continued his education at Superior State Teachers College, now known as UWS, and graduated with a BS degree.

He then joined the US Air Force and spent 4 years at Beale Air Force Base, Marysville, CA, and was honorably discharged in 1967. He returned to college for a short while until he attained employment at Murphy Oil Corporation where he worked for nearly 30 years, most of that time as head of the warehouse and purchasing.

Jon was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judy Pederson on June 28, 1969, at St. Francis Catholic Church, and would have celebrated 55 years together.

He belonged to St. Francis Parish for many years, was a UCT member for over 20 years, and bowled in the All-Parish League for many years.

His favorite pastime was to fish the Brule River and land one of those big steelhead trout.

Each morning, he looked forward to the Murphy Oil retirees' breakfast to reminisce and share the news.

He was a longtime Packer, Badger, Dodger, and Bulldog fan.

Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; daughter, Lisa (Ray); son, Sean (Melissa); grandchildren, Kali, and Phoenix; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley and several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Dora Pederson; and fur baby, Snooks.

A sincere thank you to the Twin Ports Health Services for their care and concern for Jon; and thank you to our neighbor, Lisa, for all her special treats.

A private family service has taken place with a burial in St. Francis Cemetery.
