He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Melquist and Ila Melquist (Schultz); his siblings, Robert and Patricia; and his brother-in-law Milt Gustafson.

He is survived by: his wife Karen Fabregas; his children, Wade Melquist (Lindsay), Andy Melquist (Nicole) and Teena Novotny (Mark); and his stepdaughters, Shannon Kowalski (Rich) and Aleasha Kowalski (Josh). He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
