He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmo Whiting and Gladys Whiting. He is survived by: his wife Leslie Copes-Whiting; his granddaughters, Noel Ragsdale (Wally) and Lauren Whiting; his great grandchildren, Landon and Rowan; his nephew Neal Hughes (Mary) of Alabama; and his pet Grace. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews.
