He was predeceased by: his parents, William Walter and Margaret Lila Matthews (Corcoran); his siblings, Robert, William, Ken and Doris; and his son Michael Patrick Matthews.

He is survived by: his wife Colette Josephine Matthews; his children, Jennifer McComb (Tom), Andrew Matthews (Debbie), Margaret Peters, Anne Shyjan (Andy) and Mary Townsend (Steve); and his siblings, Donald Matthews (Pat) and Kathleen Pedersen. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Meyers Northland Chapel (401 Main St, Parkville, MO 64152). A rosary was held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Therese Catholic Church (7207 MO-9, Kansas City, MO 64152).
