He was predeceased by : his parents, Gordon E. Schmidt and Monica M. Schmidt (Meidl); his son Joe Schmidt; his siblings, Gordon Schmidt and Marjorie Zajdel; and his brothers-in-law, Steve Kornely, Jim Mankins and Glenn Isaacson.
He is survived by : his children, Chelsea Grosshuesch (Jake) and John Schmidt (Sage); his granddaughters, Ellie, Josie and Mazie; his siblings, Gloria Reis (John), Mary Isaacson, Susie Phillip (Tom), Brenda Johnson (Keith), Janet Kornely, Julie Dehne (Guy), Ann Klein (Tim) and Joe Schmidt (Doreen); and his siblings-in-law, Kathy Lorenz (Ed) and Robert. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
