He was predeceased by: his parents, Violet Proesel (Esser) and William Proesel Sr.; his sister Fae Heller; and his sons, Bruce Proesel and Leiann Bachand.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his sons, David Proesel (Terry) and Jim Proesel (Karen); his son-in-law Bill Bachand; his grandchildren, Kristen Hendrickson (Justin), Nicole Halverson (Tim), Lisa Proesel, Cori Biersteker, Kevin Biersteker and Brandon Proesel (Samantha); and his great grandchildren, Tyler Proesel (Cristen Williams), Brynn Hendrickson, Tess Hendrickson and Evee Biersteker.
