He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bernard Knutson and Martha (Dowling); his wife Jacqueline Joan Hall; his children, Jeanne Plunkett (Tim), Mark (Patricia) and Eric (Kelley); his grandchildren, Shawn, Megan, Kristin, Kathryn, Madeline and Zachary; and his great grandchildren, Kealee, Connor, Ruth, Hunter, Max, George, Ruby and Rosalind.

“I just learned of Gene's passing and am very saddened by it. He was a wonderful and generous man, and my mother was lucky to have married him, not least because he taught her how to eat sensibly and develop a healthy outlook on life. I have many happy memories of my visits to them in Arizona, which now seem so long ago. He was very kind to me and our family and was always reliable and cheerful, a mensch and class act. We will miss him. R.I.P., Gene. John Paulos”
