He was predeceased by: his parents, John Smedema and Frances Smedema (Huizenga); his daughter Linda Smedema; his siblings, Ben Smedema, George Smedema, Beatrice Wiersma and Annabel DeVries; and his siblings-in-law, Bernard, Garrett Vande Kolk and Gloria Quam.
He is survived by: his wife Jessie Smedema of Waupun; his children, Philip Smedema (Sue) of Green Bay, Cindy Abel (Jay) of Beaver Dam and Ginger Trapp (Tom) of Arvada, Colorado; and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Natalie, Krista, Amy, Jennifer, Christopher, Jamie, Timothy, Kacie, Bailie and Derrick. He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Werner Harmsen Funeral Home (201 E Jefferson St, Waupun, WI 53963). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
