He was predeceased by: his parents, Delmar Smit and Lorraine Smit (Luther). He is survived by: his wife Paulette Gudenschwager; his sons, Derrick Smit (Candace) and Jeffrey Smit; his stepchildren, Chris Selje, Rebecca Kamphuis (Scott) and Angela Herringa (Josh); his grandchildren, Bailey Smit (Paige), Kobe (Avery Poole) and Kennedy Smit; his great grandchild Baker Smit; his sister Barb Harmsen (Harland); and his brother-in-law David Gudenschwager (Debbie). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
