He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret "Marge" Katherine (Lawton); his son Joseph "Joey" J. Tennies; his parents, Anna Tennies and Lawrence Tennies; his parents-in-law, Dorothy and Elmer Lawton; his sister-in-law Caroline Tennies; and his nephew Robbie Goetz.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Julie, John, Mary, Jeff, Joey and Cassidy Erickson (Adam Cook); his great grandchild Conner Erickson (Kendyl Hoss); his grandchildren, Nicole, Tessa, Jaelle Tennies, Samantha Hughes (Parker), Amber Kutsche, Austin Tennies (Kierra), Michaela Mitchell, Maggie and Frankie Tennies; his siblings, Carol Goetz (Dan), Jim Tennies, David Tennies (Lynn), Larry Tennies (Kak), Joan Pauley, Mark Tennies (Joetta) and Jean Frey (Dan); and his siblings-in-law, Wayne Lawton and Linda Lawton. He is also survived by 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
