He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Batzer and Esther Batzer (Rehme); and his wife Sara Reinke. He is survived by: his children, Gregg Batzer (Christine) and Traci Burke (Charlie); his grandson James Burke; and his sisters, Kathy Tillotson (Bruce) and Linda Vandenelzen (Keith).

Memorials may be made in John's name to St. Paul's Lutheran School or to Northland Lutheran High School in Kronenwetter.
