He was predeceased by: his parents, Elzy Clinton and Virginia Belle Uphold (Shrout); his siblings, William "Jack" Uphold Sr., James "Jim" Uphold Sr., Elzy "Sonny" Uphold, Clinton "Buck" Uphold, Patty Uphold, Ruby Uphold, Eva Uphold and Bonnie Uphold; and his pet Penny.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Lou Uphold (Gidley); his daughters, Lisa Johnson (Kenny) and Tonya Uphold of Kingwood; his grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Courtney and Kaitlyn; and his sisters, Connie Uphold (Art Groves) of Tunnelton and Ethel (Tibbs). He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
