He was predeceased by: his parents, Hiram Shannon and Reva Shannon (Kittle) of West Virginia; and his wife Shirley Ann Shannon (Fullen). He is survived by: his stepchildren, Larry (Kathy Fullen) and Gail (Allen Smiley); and his son Robert Jr. (Christine Shannon).
