He was predeceased by: his parents, D. Edward Phipps and Elva Rorrer Phipps; and his siblings, Patty R. Phipps, Shirley Carter and Edward Ildon Phipps.
He is survived by: his wife Patty Daniel Rockwell Phipps; his children, Gregory Phipps (Mary) of Beckley, WV and Debra Bryant (Daniel) of Conover, NC; his stepdaughter Elizabeth Rockwell of Beckley, WV; his grandsons, Samuel Phipps of High Point, NC, Zachary Bryant (Abby) of Hickory, NC and Nicholas Bryant of New York; his sister Mary Jane Gilkerson (Glenn) of Lewisburg, WV; his grandchildren, Piper Phipps, Willow Phipps and Killian Bryant; and his close friend Rex Underwood. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Maple Fork Baptist Church (1288 Maple Fork Rd, Mt Hope, WV 25880). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
