He was predeceased by : his parents, Homer Vance and Sarah Vance (Dempsey); his siblings, Linda Short, Phyllis Elswick (Roger), Betty Whitman and Homer Vance Jr. (Alisha); and his son Jamie Vance.

He is survived by : his children, Johnny Vance Jr., Natasha Adkins (Leonard), Shannon Vance and Lisa Walls; his siblings, Helen McGarvey, Christina Samson, Bill Vance (Margaret), Jimmy Vance (Kim) and Rick Vance; and his friends, Eddie and Rosa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
