He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Carl Nelson and Ella Mae Bruno Nelson; his siblings, Stanley Gay Nelson, Carl Ray Nelson, Bobby Lee Nelson and Debbie Sue Nelson; and his grandson Joshua Adams Phillips Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Debra Louise Wrinkle Nelson; his sisters, Gloria Pack of Maple Fork and Patty Frye (Randy) of North Carolina; his daughters, Pam Phillips of Oak Hill, Tonyia Phillips (Josh) of Oak Hill and Rebecca Clyburn (Doug) of Ohio; his grandchildren, Makayla Phillips, Airon Phillips, Cheyenne Phillips, Emily Phillips, Dustin Clyburn and Dougie Clyburn; and his great grandchildren, Klaira Phillips, Kynslee Phillips and Daniel Clyburn.
