It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Alphonso Hancock of Bluefield, West Virginia, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his siblings, Rudolph and Zenobia; and his half-brother Marty. He is survived by: his wife Sonia T. Hancock; and his children, Phil A. Hancock (Melissa) and Laarni West. He is also survived by two grandsons, relatives, and a host of friends.

In lieu of services, the family invites all who knew Al to honor his memory with a donation to the WVU College of Law Veterans Advocacy Clinic, P.O. Box 6130, Morgantown, WV 26506-6130.

“My condolences to the Hancock family and I thank the Lord for allowing me to know Al- not only a hardworking, knowledgeable and dependable man, but a friend during five years that we worked together on landscape projects in southern West Virginia. Never a harsh word or expression ever was heard from him and that kept the crews under his guidance calm, respectful and job ready.
