He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Sidney Mathena and Hazel Blanche Poff Mathena; his wife Cuzzie; and his siblings, Ella, Emma Belcher, Ann Bradbury, Basil Mathena and Randloph Mathena.
He is survived by: his brother Willis of Princeton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews along with his church family.
