It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Janet Lee Bates of Bridgeport, West Virginia, who passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Argyl Allen and Hazel Allen (Robey); her former husband Melvin D. Bates; Harold Junior Bates. She is survived by: her sons, Gary Bates (Renee) of Fairmont and Rodney Bates (Jennifer) of Bridgeport; her grandchildren, Bridget King, Gidget Swiger (Mike), Nikki Gorman (Andy), Taylor Bates (Todd) and Logan Bates; and her great grandchildren, Lydia, Morgan, Matthew (Amber), Nathan Gorman, Lainey Bates and Leo Farley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Harmer Funeral Home (300 Pike St, Shinnston, WV 26431). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
