He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester and Ruth; his wife Yvonne Sturgill; and his children, Elizabeth Snyder and Kevin Sturgill.

He is survived by: his children, Vernon Sturgill Jr. (Susan) of Hawaii, Brian Gurnsey of Navada, Jeanne Ortiz (Abe) of Maryland, Larry Sturgill (Jill) of Maryland and Dreama Sturgill of Arbovale. He is also survived by many grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
