He was predeceased by : his parents, Augusteen Elizabeth Howard Cates and William Louis Cates; and his siblings, Cecil Cates and Lois Green (Alpha Green). He is survived by : his wife Irene; his children, David (Clara) and Melissa (David Doogan); his granddaughters, Emily Cates and Alison Cates; and his siblings, Julian Cates (Sarah) and Ruby Hendrix (Bill). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, a large extended family, and good friends.
