He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Albert and Edith Mae Townsend; his siblings, Ernest Townsend, Jr., Paul Townsend, Virginia Salser (Townsend), Helen Gravely (Townsend), Donald Townsend, Ronald Townsend and Delbert Townsend, Sr.; his son Albert Wayne Townsend, Jr.; and his grandson Maverick Stone.
He is survived by: his brother Carl Townsend; his children, April Pieper (James) of Frankfort, Virginia Mae "Jenny" Townsend-Hill (Rodney) of Nitro and John Ward Eakin, III (Amber) of Dunbar; and his former wife Theresa Eakin of Dunbar. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
