He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Harzen and Sophie Karoleweski Harzen; his wife Edna Tice Harzen; and his sister Dorothy McKnight. He is survived by: his sons, Alfred W. Harzen Jr. and Edward A. Harzen; his granddaughters, Lillian Marie and Morgan Rayann; and his sister Bernice Pendry (Gerald) of Florida.
