He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Surock; his son Paul Michael Surock; and his siblings, Nancy George, Martha Elliott, Linda Dodd, Tommy, Bobby and Jimmy Surock.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Surock of Clarksburg; his son John Joseph Surock Jr. of Fairmont; and his siblings, Sandra Flint of Clarksburg, Patricia Fox of Lost Creek and Billy Surock of Clarksburg. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
