He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenville Merl and Thelma Grace Gooden (Powley); his son Preston; his siblings, Mary Fitzwater, Candace King and Ricky Gooden; and the mother of his children Donna McCloud.
He is survived by: his wife Susie Gooden; his sons, Don Gooden of Elkins, WV, Ron Gooden (Tracy) of Elkins, WV, Howard "Jake" Gooden, Jr. (Jenna) of Elkins, WV and Ricky Hollis (Elizabeth) of Marietta, GA; his sister Tammy Fenton (Bob) of Montrose, WV; and his pet Gabbi. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
