He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Elwood" Starkey Sr. and Cora "Lucille" Moffett Starkey Cooley; his wife Annette C. Gengo; his stepfather Lawrence E. "Larry" Cooley; his sister Frances Kay Dorr; his daughter Michelle "Shelley" Bonwell (Randy) of Buckhannon; his brothers, Robert Starkey (Georganna) of Jane Lew and Thomas Starkey (Martha Sue) of Quiet Dell; his sisters-in-law, Concetta Gail Gengo of Bloomfield, NY and Marlene Adele Moran (Lawrence) of Victor, NY; and his close friends, Tina and Emmi.
He is survived by: his caregiver Michelle Moats-Graff of Walkersville.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service (144 Hackers Creek Rd, Jane Lew, WV 26378). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James' honor to Shriners Children's Hospital, Processing Center, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA, 30394-7765, and/or the Walkersville Fire Dept., 16629 US-19, Walkersville, WV 26343.
