She was predeceased by : her parents, Scott Burgess and Eliza Jarrell Burgess; her sons, Tom Burgess and Charles Burgess; her siblings, Pearl Kinder, Ora Gore, Butch Burgess, Alvin Burgess, Brady Burgess, Shorty Burgess and Lester Burgess; and her grandson Brandon Bates.

She is survived by : her children, Margaret Hewitt of Elkhart, IN, Lorraine Bates of Florida and Jody Burgess of Danville; her grandchildren, Brian Hewitt of Indiana, Michael Frickert of Indiana, Tommy Burgess of Holden, Scotty Burgess of Holden, Jon Bates of Florida, Terra Smith of Apple Grove and Kaleigh Hewitt of Goshen, IN; and her great grandchildren, Tristen of Holden, Caleb of Holden, Victoria of Holden, Morgan of Teays Valley, Sophia of Indiana, Leah of Indiana, David of Indiana and Eliza of Indiana.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Freeman Funeral Home, Inc. (220 Main St, Chapmanville, WV 25508). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
