He was predeceased by: his parents, Dee Newsome and Nicati Newsome; the mother of his children Rosella Bryant Newsome; his wife Lula Porter Newsome; his children, Jerry Newsome, Greg Newsome, Jimmy Darrell Newsome and Jennifer Jeffrey; his children-in-law, James Cordray and Pamela Newsome; his grandparents, Alex, Jane Runyon, John and Rebecca Newsome; his siblings, Willard Newsome, Edward Newsome, Virgil Newsome, Lillie Vance, Ida Lester, Dixie Dillon, Rebecca Maynard, Victoria Dillon, Ola Newsome, Frances Runyon and Seanie Marcum; his great grandchild Marshal Brady Chaffin; and his parents-in-law, Emory and Ida Bryant.
He is survived by: his children, Stephanie Cordray of Logan, Robin Chaffin (Ermal) of Kermit, Kathy Ferry (Mark) of Louisville, KY, Nikki Ardman of Cross Lanes, WV, Virgil Newsome of Dingess, Jeff Newsome (Vicki) of Ohio and Jason Newsome (Stacy) of Fayetteville, WV; his daughters-in-law, Kelsie Newsome and Mary Newsome; his grandchildren, Christina Sparks, J. R. Browning, Erin Browning, Crystal Browning, Brian Jacob Newsome, Bradley Chaffin, Brittany Williams, John David Chaffin, Chris Chaffin, Jessica Chaffin, Lauren Ferry, Bethany Farley, Natalie Farley, Benjamin Ardman, Nicholas Ardman, Josh Jeffrey, James Newsome, Aubrey Newsome, Madelyn Newsome, Grayson Newsome, Misty Carey and Joey Carey; and his close friend Don Newsome. He is also survived by twenty-six great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church. A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
