He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin "Butch" Bess and Virginia "Peg" Bess; his grandson Jason Cuffee; and his sisters, Joann Musick and Susie Boggess.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Randy Bess (Tammy), Carol Mayes (Rob) and Sarah Cuffee (Linwood); his grandchildren, Emily, Robbie, Lauren, Lexi, Elijah and Myra; and his great grandchildren, McKinley, Ezekiel, Quincy, Charlee, Brooks, Theo, Delilah, Harper, Ford and Tatum.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gatens-Harding Funeral Home (147 Main St, Poca, WV 25159). A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
