He was predeceased by: his parents, William Lewis Smith and Minnie Mildred Scheitlan Smith; and his siblings, Gene, Buck, Dave, Ray, Barbara Sue and Marilyn.
He is survived by: his children, Teresa Sue Smith of Elkins and Gary David Smith of Elkins; his grandchildren, Devon Bennett and Aaron Bennett (Gabrielle); his great grandchild Scarlett; and his sister Wilma Gimmel. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
