She was predeceased by: her parents, Richard Thomas and Mary Friend (Spedden); her husband Richard Carter McDowell; her children, Mary Susan McDowell and Matthew Alan McDowell; her granddaughter Virginia "Lori" McDowell; her daughter-in-law Catherine McDowell; and her siblings, Richard Friend, Virginia Friend Winters and Carol Friend Huggins.
She is survived by: her sons, Jeffrey Carter McDowell (Sandy), Richard Lynn McDowell and David Kirk McDowell (LuAnn); her grandchildren, Joshua, Susan, Michael, Riley, Miranda, Lydia and Lea; her great grandchildren, Evan, Andrew, Jacqueline, Carter, Jillian, Liam and Amelia; her daughter-in-law Edie McDowell; and her brother William Friend.
