She was predeceased by: her parents, Claude Gilbert and Susie Taylor Gilbert; her grandmother Nina Raines; and her brother Jack Gilbert. She is survived by: her stepgrandfather Henry Clay Raines; her sons, Sheldon Arbogast of Manassas, VA and J. C. Arbogast of Elkins; her brother Jim Gilbert of Abingdon, VA; and her grandsons, Matthew Arbogast of Chattanooga, TN, Alan Arbogast of Bristow, VA and Elliott Arbogast of Elkins. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241.
