He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Lee Sr. and Glendola Elizabeth Oliver Cox; his brothers, Dallas Eugene and Thomas Ray Cox; and his grandparents, Harvey, Bessie Cox, Ada and Paul Oliver.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Fridley Cox; his children, James Garen Cox (Lori Ann-Henson) of Culpepper, VA and Heather Rennea Chapman (Joel) of Elkview; his siblings, Virgie McClung, Deborah Gay, Patricia Cox, Russell L. Cox Jr. (Cindy) and Edward S. Cox (Sharon Kay); his grandchildren, Zachary Lee Cox (Katelyn Lynch), Caleb Nathanel Wells, Ian Michael Chapman, Lauren Elizabeth Cox, Isaiah Alexander Chapman and Isabella Corrine Chapman; and his great grandchildren, Alivia Tyler, Sadie and Autumn Cox.
