He was predeceased by: his parents, Shirley Painter and Mable Painter of Dunbar; his sisters, Doris Beasley and Shirley Kinder; and his granddaughter Christina Britton.

He is survived by: his wife Helen L. Painter; and his children, Don Painter (Susan), Debbie Painter (Steve Willis) and Mark Painter (Darcia). He is also survived by six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
