He was predeceased by : his parents, Elza Doral and Ruth Holt Retherford; his son Jermiah Thomas Retherford; and his brothers, Jimmy C. Retherford, Timothy E. Retherford, Franklin D. Retherford, Gary A Retherford and Roger L. Retherford.

He is survived by : his wife Frances Utt Retherford; his daughter Tonya Goodnow (Andy); his grandsons, Stephen Thomas Goodnow and Caden Joshua Goodnow; and his siblings, Robert E. Retherford (Karen), Randall Retherford (Pauline), Steven L. Retherford (Kay), Nancy R. Trapp (Richard) and Dora L. Stutler (Leonard). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
