He was predeceased by : his father Raymond Bates; his brother Raymond Cline Bates; his sister-in-law Carolyn Bates Miller; and his foster brother Herbert Cyril Elkins (Georgia). He is survived by : his wife Carole Martin Bates of West Hamlin; his children, Kelli Harries (Paul) of Lexington and Loren Keith Bates (Kerry) of Branchland; his grandchildren, Grant, Victoria, Gabriel Bates of Branchland, Rachel, Megan and Lauren Harries of Lexington, KY; and his nephew Douglas Cline Bates (Mary).
