She was predeceased by: her parents, Anna Nick and Lester Nick; her birth father Harry Carpenter; her former husbands, Harry L. Springer II and James W. Nelson; her children, Harry L. Springer, Jr. and Mary E. Holmes; her siblings, Harry Carpenter, Jerry Carpenter, Larry Carpenter, Frankie Nick, Leon Nick, Micheal Nick, Johnny Nick, Pete Nick, Mary Armstrong, Thema Bartlett and Sherly Martin; and her children-in-law, Patricia Springer and Bob Holmes.
She is survived by: her husband Autry Howell; her children, Melvin E. Spinger and Whitney Painter; her sisters, Bessie Rinker and Joyce; her siblings-in-law, Allen Painter, Bill Martin, James Battler, Becky Nick and Diane Nick; and her close friend Connie Harne. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home (256 Halltown Rd, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
