He was predeceased by: his parents, Millard Adkins and Myrtle Adkins; and his daughter Michelle Adkins Cooper. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Dalton Adkins; his children, Greta Fry, Cynthia Murray, Michael Adkins, Mark Adkins and Carl Byrge; his son-in-law Gary Cooper; and his brothers, Milard Adkins Jr. and Roy Adkins. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
