He was predeceased by : his parents, Preston Gibson and Sylvia "Dulcie" Stanley Gibson; his granddaughter Jana Dawson; and his siblings, Virgil Dempsey Gibson, Vonda Castle and Verna Jones.
He is survived by : his wife Zelda Fields Gibson; his daughters, Georgeanna Leake (David), Diana Leffew (Frank) and Darla Stapleton (Luther); and his grandchildren, Tommy, April, Michelle, Shawn, Chris, Luther, Vernon, Austin, Michael and Stacy. He is also survived by twenty-one great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
