He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaiah "Red" Payne and Mary Hatfield Payne; his son Jimmy Wayne Payne; his siblings, Donald Gene Payne, Leon Payne, Roland Payne, James Payne, Anita Sue Vance, Irish Ann Cooper and Connie Fay McKinney; and his close friends, Ronnie Hagerman and Rufus Beavers.

He is survived by: his children, Debbie Street (Gary Leasure) of Bradshaw, WV and David M. Payne of Jolo, WV; his grandchildren, Jimmy Lee Drake Payne (Kayla) of Jolo, WV, Kayla Marie Street (Robert Acosta) of Charlotte, NC, Gabriella McClanahan (Andrew) of Bradshaw, WV and Bill Lester of North Fork, WV.; his great grandchildren, Chassie Leigha Drake, Zoey Mae Drake, Avery Kate Drake, Anthony Marc Drake, Jaxson Shane McClanahan and Abel Methias McClanahan; his cousins, Greg Hatfield, Curt Monahan, Linda Vance, Janie Sparks, Gail Martin and Rayetta Church; his close friends, Timmy "Underbiden" Underwood, Gary O'quinn and Claude Church; and his pets, Blue Junior, Lilly, Queen, Sparkles and Rosie.
