He was predeceased by: his parents, Freelin Messer and Mary Evans Messer; his wife Freida Messer; and his grandson Steven Ray Messer. He is survived by: his daughters, Susie Messer (Ray Jr) of Lost Creek, Debbie Bragg (Lincoln) of Kermit, Virginia Muncy (Ron Blizzard) of Charleston and Marylyn Renee Fannin of Charleston; and his grandchildren, Heather Denise Brewer (William Joel), Samuel Jr. Salmons (Jessica Lynn), Crit Muncy (Brandy), Grady Fannin (Sydney) and Veronica Ann Fannin. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren as well as host of extended family.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Old Jenny's Church (879 Jennies Creek Rd, Kermit, WV 25674). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
