She was predeceased by: her parents, Jess Dial and Thelma Riley Hanshaw; her daughter Crystal Gilbert Ferguson; and her granddaughter Natasha Strathman. She is survived by: her sons, Lawrence Strathman of Lesage, WV and Sean Smith (Athanasia) of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Christopher Strathman, Gary "Trey" Gilbert III, Cassandra Walker, Pablo Smith, Nicholas Smith, Sebastian Smith and Christina Roe; and her great grandchildren, Sophia, Maci Strathman, Indi, Irie Cassell, Abigail Roe and Zephyr Walker.
