He was predeceased by: his parents, Mark Haymond and Christine Bare Smith; his wife Virginia Lee Smith; his son John Edward Smith; his brothers, Mark Smith (Nellie), Herbert Smith (Virginia), Bob Smith and John Smith (Betty); and his brother-in-law George Raines.
He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Ann Dickinson Smith; his grandsons, Steven Smith (Tracy) and David Smith; his great grandchild Avery Smith; his sisters, Mary Ellen Raines and Ida Lea Gosik (Joe); and his sister-in-law Jewell Smith. He is also survived by extended family including several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairlea Scholarship Fund or to Gwens Meals c/o Shepherds Center of Greenbrier Valley.
