She was predeceased by: her parents, Shirley Merritt and Mary Merritt; her husband Rev. Treaby Jean Scaggs Sr.; her son Rev. Treaby Gene Scaggs Jr.; and her sisters, Dorothy Mae Huddleston, Josephine Burgess and Beatrice Crum.

She is survived by: her daughter Jennifer Scaggs of Neibert; her grandson Travis Scaggs of Chapmanville; and her siblings, Nancy Bourne (David) of Neigbert, Daniel Merritt (Frances) of Neigbert, William "Junior" Merritt Jr. (Betty) of Barboursville and Roger Merritt of Taplin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home, Inc. (115 Market St, Man, WV 25635). A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Taplin Freewill Baptist Church (10529 Hanging Rock Hwy, Man, WV 25632). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location.
