He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Chester Dawson and Margaret Irene Liggett Dawson; his sister Helen; his brother-in-law Ding McCann; his brother Jack; his siblings-in-law, Eva Mae Dawson and Ted Senter; and his grandson-in-law David Lewis.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Jones Dawson; his children, Denise Turner of Washington, GA, Donna (Dennis Carl), Deborah Garrett of Clarksburg and Joe Dawson of Lexington, NC; his grandchildren, David Jeremy Lantz (Ashley), Ashley R. Lantz, Samantha Dawn Lewis, Mark Lindsey Carl, Jacqueline Estelle "Jackie" Starsick Mahaney (Eric), Chrystal Ridenour (William) and Christopher Hibbs; his great grandchildren, Kayla Lewis Compton (Kyle), Shelby "Morgan" Lewis, Kelsie Lewis, Hunter Lantz, Oliver Lantz, William Dawson, William Ridenour Jr., Xander Ridenour, Havanna Mahaney and Eric Mahaney Jr.; his great great grandchildren, Camden Nicholson and Easton "Gus" Nicholson; and his sister Betty Lou Senter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
