He is survived by: his former wife Melissa Whitehead Dotson; his children, Hunter of Cabin Creek, Noah Dotson of Cabin Creek, Tiffany Dotson of Cabin Creek and Iana Dotson of Summersville; his parents, Douglas James Sr. of Joe's Creek and Sheila Dotson of Marmet; and his siblings, Betty Jo Noel (Rodney Kiger) of Muncy, IN and Christopher Dotson (Danielle Cook) of Joe's Creek.
