He was predeceased by: his father Remelton D. Emery; and his brother Robert D. Emery. He is survived by: his wife Doris L. Emery (Lamp); his children, Michael W. Emery (Tammy) and Melody A. Emery Lamon; his stepson Matthew Scott Cole, Sr. (Crystal); his sister Joyce E. Penwell; his grandchildren, Kelsey L. Neterer (Jacob), Kayelyn Cole and Matthew Cole, Jr. (Katie); his great grandchildren, Makenna Raine Neterer and Matthew Cole, III; his nieces, Kathy L. Albright (Bruce) and Trina Miller; his great-nephews, Bruce Albright and Garrett Miller; and his great-niece Ciara.
